We feel so compelled to pay attention to so many updates from so many sources not to mention feeling obligated to update, update, update. While the way we communicate has been transformed forever, the way we manage our communications should adhere to this one key principle:
It is not ALL important.
Be more mindful about the notices you put out there. What you say is not necessarily that important to others either.
Some ideas for reducing update mania include:
- Turn off your mobile notices.
- Go back to ritual. Here’s my Twitter ritual.
- Pick the social network best aligned with your communications style.
- Find your communications rhythm.
We are all part of the problem. We are all part of the solution.
What are you doing to minimize the deluge of updates?
